The Talent Tree- some musing by R.Magnus, copyright 2014.

 The Talent Tree
A gift is a plant that with nurture will grow. Let your seedling grow in its natural direction. Gardener, you will be under pressure to bend that young sapling in a crowd pleasing direction, or to push your plant towards a laboured life of producing fruit for gold. Gardener, you will be cold-pressed to continue growing that plant in the direction that seems to yield the most...success... status...attention... money... power... love... so the plant and the gardener become trapped. Gardener, your tree wants to become one with you.... and you with your plant, letting it decide its shape, size, colour and true form. Resisting temptations to grow toward apparent greatness- this tree, blossoming and expanding in the creative nature of a gift will take on its most authentic forms. Not forced to become the most expected tree in the forest, it could never be described as a bonsai. Given time to relax and not bear fruit from time to time, to appear as if it lies on fallow ground. Not being thrashed every season and stripped bare every time it fruits. A plant that becomes one with its gardener is allowed to change form as often as it must. It may appear almost dead if required. A gift that is loved, single–eyed by a doting gardener is a precious plant that will one day resemble the promises contained in its seed. A tree that is not overly manicured will develop a steadfast trunk.  A plant that refuses surplus gardeners will thrive. Such a tree does not compete. It does not need to, and this makes it free. Be that tree...... if you want to be.

Rainbow Treetrunks - New poem by Ruth Magnus, copyright March 4 / 2014.

                                                               Rainbow Treetrunks

Sometimes...  just looking at a photo of rainbow treetrunks makes me feel better in hours of stress

And ....if my window is open and the scent of winter smoke or eucalyptus washes in ...even better

At times like this, when my soul is sickened by too much mental graffiti and nauseas imagery

Trees and plants can restore me peace... as long as I leave certain books behind, for a time

Early morning sounds are a relief ......compared to tormenting nonsongs with trashy beats

The sound of waves at the ocean is soothing and helps with nausea of the feelings

Rocks and plants, animals and seasons.... are all part of this – place... this thing, our space

My tree, the one I like to think exists for me, stands still, for me to see from my window

The twitterers enjoy him too.... and smaller creatures I can’t see from over the road

Fresh nature calms

It’s really simple

It sounds too normal

So very usual

But nothing’s better

Than the natural

The world of nature

On endless levels

Layers and sizes

Notes and colours

Scents and textures

Patterns, puzzles

Tones and temperatures

Harmonies, winds

Shapes

Rain

Logics

Lives

Grass

Breaths

Liquids

Snow

Northern Lights

Waters

Food

Panoramas

Thoughts

And

Explanations

Stories

Myths

And

Studies

Wisdom

It is all here on earth .... poetry and science are her reflections.

Arabella- digital painting by Ruth Magnus. Copyright- 2008

If my paintings were people.

If my paintings were people and had feelings and could talk... I imagine some of them would feel as though they were more impressive than the others.... They might feel proud and flash their glistening colours or feel superior for their oily sheen.... My craft works might feel overlooked by the more expensive frames , and the big pictures would possibly think they were of more value than the small..... But they would all be wrong. The simple designs might argue they are more serene than their  highly detailed  counterparts and those decorative pieces might loathe the emptiness of simplicity.  If they took credit for their lovely lines, their certain themes... they would be missing the point. That it was me! And they are all designed by me and only are existing because I actually brought them into being from out of my mind first. So many haven't made it yet. Each one created with care and artistic inspiration- or if not care, then wild abandon and exploration- every one a special experience. Not one of them considered finished by me until they are just right. So, my paintings and my drawings and my craftworks all are equally important as they are mine! They all have a purpose , some created for grand reasons... some for smaller ones.... but really... to me, they are part of my collection, an extension of my creative love . They would have no right to put each other down or compete in any way that is not constructive.
